Anyhow we are celebrating a lot this year. First of all we want to thank everyone that has come out and indulged our passion over the years!You are the Party!!

Next up is our 20th event! Since half of Ghent attended the SonneMondSterne Festival in August we felt it was time for a little reunion. Headliner of the night is Detroit born Daniel Stefanik. The German based producer and DJ bursted out one of the best sets we’ve heard in a long time. Expect a spicy Freude Am Tanzen recipe.

Dinner starts at 11 pm with young talent Leesa who has recently won almost every DJ contest held in Belgium. Chefs Jensen & Bugsy are taking us back into time and Jack ‘n Jazz team up with the mysterious Mr Sakso . House house and more f*cking house!

Summer is undoubtedly here and we’ve had plenty of time to recover from our last showdown.

What news? What’s happening? What’s Cookin’?

The ‘Gentse Feesten’ are almost kicking off and what better way to spend your first “Gentse Feesten- Sunday” on a sun-drenched terrace with bbq-food, fresh drinks, and foremost: good music!

What’s Cookin’? offers you daily and nightly pleasure on the 18th of July at our beloved summershare het “Parlement”. We will start at 3pm where Mayz, Jensen&Bugsy, San Soda and Red D will make you want to wiggle more than your toes on disco, soul, funk & any other kind of tunes. When night falls we move our shakin’ butts inside for a true What’s Cookin’ night with Red D, San Soda, Fred Nasen, your What’s Cookin’ residents,Ishtar, Koodoo and Lamaz.

There is an extra reason for celebration by the way, Jazzmin turns 25 so this edition just might be a little extra special, who knows… .

Next up we’re celebrating Belgium is still a country and what better way to do this with our friends from the We Play House imprint. They’ve teamed up with the Antwerp based Feieren squad and hijacked a boat to hold down at the docks for an afternoon filled with oomphin bass and bustin beats.

The venue is an old boat turned into a serious underground party location with an open roof if the weather allows it. The party will start at noon on Wednesday 21st July (yes, that’s a holiday) and finish at midnight.

Music will be provided partly by Feiern guests Khuram vs Nathan, Dictators & Metrobox and WPH core crew FCL (San Soda vs Red D) and Maxim Lany. Special guest for the day will be an allstar What’s Cookin’ crew.You need the flyer to get into the party, so print away or get one from one of the crew members. There will be plenty of flyers available over the next weeks, especially on the WPH/Lany Recordings label night on 10 Days Off on Saturday 17th July and on the What’s Cookin’? Matinee

Dear friends, another cookin’ year has flown by.

As we still haven’t found a tool to stop time, we can try to do so once a year.
Yes that’s right; What’s cookin’? celebrates its 4th year anniversary.

We’ve only just recovered from a legendary New Year’s eve party and haven’t got a chance to thank you properly.
What better way to say thanks than with an even bigger party?

The oldskool fanatics will be hip housed by master of ceremony, producer and DJ Tyree Cooper hailing from Chi-Town, USA.
New talent and breakthru house artist of the year ‘Gramophonedzie’ (Belgrade, Serbia), from the hit single ‘Why don’t you’ will show us his skills behind the decks and set the place on fire.

Our residents Jensen & Bugsy and Jack ‘n Jazz have been serving you for four years now, and by now they sure know what you all love best.

Gramophonedzie (Belgrade, Serbia)

For almost 15 years Marko Milicevic (Gramophonedzie) has been working as a Dj. Now 30 years old, the Belgrade native started his career as a teenager. In the year 2000 Marko was honoured to be chosen by RedBull Music Academy in Ireland as their student and participant which was one of the main steps towards his work as a producer now.

At RBMA he was introduced to music production which lead to his later success in that field. Beside dj-ing he finished his studies of Sound Design at Belgrade University. He also made music for many video commercials, shows, films and produced projects for some major Hip Hop bands in Serbia. He also made the theme music for the Big Brother tv show across the Balkan countries.

His passion for funky music, live instruments and intensive vocals resulted in his alias “Gramophonedzie” under which, he’s been making music for last 4 years. He’s released tracks for Gotta Keep Faith Records, Yakuza Records, Guesthouse, DiskoZoo Records, Shak Digital, Maracuja & DVR as well as numerous remixes for a large variety of labels. So far, his biggest success is his track “Why Don’t You”, where he samples an old swing track. This brought Gramophonedzie to the lights of the global house scene where he was signed to Virgin/Positiva records.

As producer Gramophonedzie has very diverse style of music that varies from jackin house to almost minimal beats. In his long dj career he’s played numerous parties and big dance events where he shared decks with the lieks of Bob Sinclar, Derrick Carter, Junior Jack, David Morales, Basement Jaxx, Tom Novy, Axwell, Roger Sanchez and many more besides…

Tyree Cooper (Chicago, USA)

It probably all began with the old R & B dusties of his mother, Tyree Cooper was impassionedly listening to.

Growing up on the streets of Chicago’s South Side Tyree Cooper discovered his love for the soul music of the 60ies. A first step was to join his Grammar school band at the age of 13 – playing the flute! His other passion at that time was playing basketball.
Both passions followed him to the high school where he met Mike Dunn and learned how to DJ. Listening to Farley “Jackmaster Funk”, “ The Hot Mix 5“, Ronny Hardy and the electrifying energies of Frankie Knuckles, Tyree was well schooled at an early age.

Eventually Tyree’s basketball skills awarded him at scholarship to the University of Wisconsin -Stout where the bourgeoning mixing skills were fine tuned.
Two years after college Tyree was already one of the most popular and highly sought-after DJs in Chicago. Then Vince Lawrence, of the garage funk band “Jesse Gang“ (founded by Jesse Saunders) persuaded Tyree to put together a demo tape of his music to start a career as a recording artist.

From now on it was only a question of time before signing the first record deal with the Chicago-based underground label D.J. International – that was in 1986. The first 12″ – “I Fear The Night“ (with female vocalist ‘Chic’) – promptly became an underground classic in Chicago. Other hits followed: “Acid Over“(1988), “Turn Up The Bass“ (1988/89),“’Let’s Get Hyped“ (feat. Kool Rock Steady, 1989), “Let the Music Take Control“(1989) and “Hardcore Hip House“ (1989). That was the time when Tyree Cooper created a crossover version of house music together with his friend and fellow DJ ‘Fast Eddie’ Smith and which was known as hip house. It then caused a furor on the hip hop scene, while today rap vocals are a common feature of the commercial house scene.

Tyree Cooper is now regarded as one of the most influential artists in the international house scene. Already looking back to a respectable discography Cooper founded his own label in 2002: Supa Dupa Recordings. Later one of the most important hip house tunes was released on Epic with the original and some new remix versions: “Turn Up The Bass“, which is surely one of the most important hip house tracks of all times.

Other remixing highlights and hits were undoubtedly Fast Edde “Yo! Yo! Get Funky“, “It`s Alright” from the Pet Shop Boys and the Mixmasters “In the Mix“ which was featured in Madonna’s Truth or Dare. True to the scene Tyree still lives in Chicago spreading his roots also in Europe’s exciting capitol Berlin – doing what he does best…. spinning and traveling to Europe for gigs and producing new tracks on his own record label Supa Dupa Records and of course together with shik stylkö for realbasic recordings.

Always a special night for most people, What’s Cookin’? now offers the possibility to all quality-concerned party people to come down for a unique New Year’s Eve night. Convinced that this night is not only about superficiality and mindless entertainment they have cooked up a menu you will never forget.

Special guests for the night will be Red D feat Lady Linn, the dj + singer collective that has been causing quite the storm over the last years. This summer Red D and his singing angel Lady Linn were all over the place, taking one festival after beach party by storm with their selection of live vocal house classics known and unknown. As far as pure house music fun goes you cannot get any better than that…or can you?

About half a year ago proof was delivered that house things could indeed get even better. For that you would need the extraordinary talents of someone like, let’s say Kerri Chandler? Well, that’s exactly what happened at the 10 days Off festival and the last edition of The Sunday Matinee at Charlatan, the unique Sunday concept set up by Red D and Jan ‘Jack’ Deruyck. Kerri joined Red D and Lady Linn for a live performance filled with improvisation, fun and most of all fabulous house music.

And so What’s Cookin’? is pretty damn proud to announce the VERY special guest for New Year’s Eve: The Godfather of Soulful House, a living legend, Mister Kerri Chandler!!
This NYC home-based dj/producer/singer will once again take the stage together with Red D and Lady Linn to bring you what could very well be the best quality New Year’s Eve performance ever.

This line-up alone should have your house glands salivating like never before, but just to make sure that happens What’s Cookin’? has also ensured that you will be warmed up perfectly by young Belgian prodigy San Soda, main member of Red D’s We Play House Recordings collective.

It must be deliciously bewildering to get recognition from those who inspired you in the very beginning. French House Music DJ – producer Franck Roger is no stranger to this feeling. When not travelling the world accepting club invitations, this devoted crate digger (don’t ask him about Serato) spends time in his Parisian studio messing with beats and loops. Never not working, Franck Roger is about to take things to another level as beat maker, a talent scout (through his Real Tone Records label), and the DJ you want to dance to. More beats, more gigs, more love.

In the beginning was… the Beat.

Was little Franck Roger hit by a disco ball when his parents weren’t watching? No one knows, but there were definitely a lot of signs in his early years that indicated future life developments. As a kid, Franck remembers playing around with his audiotape recorder, editing radio hosts voices out and making sure the beat matched when taping the next song…  A D.Y.I. introduction to DJing that soon translated into a mission. It was already about natural instinct: a need for beats, loops and some sounds interfering.  The starting point of house music in the first place. “I don’t think I was made to do anything else but making music.” From hypnotic, stripped-down and minimal productions – the ubiquitous “M word”, to steamier, deeper or more sophisticated moods, Franck Roger has managed, in less than ten years, to create a distinctive musical signature that earned him ongoing praises and respect from the likes of Kerri Chandler, Laurent Garnier, Louie Vega, Osunlade and more… Although he may have earned early attention for his classic vocal productions  (No More Believe, If I), his work soon gave way to a multicolor sound that now finds home in venues from Berlin afterhours club Panorama Bar  to Parisian cosy and intimate Djoon Club.

Looking for the perfect beat.

In the last few years Franck developed and redefined his musical landscape, through travelling, experimenting and more importantly beat making. It comes as no surprise that today, party promoters from Japan to South Africa (where House music reigns supreme) invite him regularly. With a studio as his best friend, Franck Roger fears nothing: “Most of the time I use my studio as a sanctuary, a shelter from city mayhem or life complications… I search for a beat and build the tracks from here”. This is what you would call the Beat approach to production. “You never know where it’s going to take you”, he warns. “Sometimes it doesn’t go far at all, simply because it just doesn’t have to.”  Luckily for us, this ability to create severe club bangers comes with an insatiable need to rock the crowd.

Making you sweat in the club, and getting a kick out of it.

Music and dancing have always been inseparable for Franck Roger, like that night he first entered a club in the mid 90’s: “I started going out in the mid-90 when I wasn’t even legal – I was one of those club kids. That’s when it all became clear to me what I was gonna do with my life”, he recalls. At the time, the loudest place to hear House music was the legendary Rex Club in Paris. Folks such as DJ Deep and Laurent Garnier would play there all the time. Fast forward to 2008: the Rex Club is now home to Franck’s successful Real Tone Records party “The 5 Beats” showing club kids du jour how it should be done, alongside prestigious guest dj’s he can also call friends.

As Franck Roger plays more and more club gigs throughout the world, sharing his love for music, the more firm his position remains in the great legacy of DJ’s that matter.
